Biography

Jonathan is an attorney and an acclaimed screenwriter, producer, and member of the prestigious Writers Guild of America. He has penned films for Sony Studios, Columbia Pictures, Universal Studios, China’s Zheijang Studios, Paramount Pictures, Skydance, Warner Bros, Germany’s Telepool GmbH, and France’s Good Hero, among others.

Jonathan’s last film, Parallel, starring Danielle Deadwyler (Till) and Aldis Hodge (Black Adam), not only garnered a theatrical release but was heralded by the New York Times as one of the “Top 5 Sci Fi Films to Stream Now” in 2024. While writing Parallel, Jonathan read a small op-ed about a single mother who was forced to live in her car due to a housing crisis. After it was towed, this mother singlehandedly sued the corporate bully that unjustly stole her temporary home. As a licensed lawyer, Jonathan instantly saw the potential for another Erin Brockovich. After extensive due diligence with a keen legal eye, Jonathan’s poignant script attracted Oscar winners Octavia Spencer, Ariana DeBose, Golden Globe nominee Rose Byrne, and Grammy award-winning Demi Lovato. Now Jonathan’s script is in post-production, and all expect his film, “Tow,” to be both a box office hit, and also set legal precedent for years to come.

Next on Jonathan’s docket is adapting Tobias Wolff’s book, The Barracks Thief, which won the National Medal of the Arts award from President Obama into a major feature film. Jonathan also has an animated film in pre-production with Laurent Zeitoun, who was nominated for an Oscar for Les Intouchables and a BAFTA for The Death of Stalin. Additionally, Jonathan has two TV series in development with Sony’s Act III Productions, the production company of legendary Norman Lear, and another series with Emmy-sweeping producer Brian Dobbins (Blackish).

With all this momentum, Jonathan recently launched MindRiot Entertainment in alliance with Europe’s esteemed Trinity College, Dublin and UNESCO writer, Dr. Justin MacGregor. With branches in Seattle, Los Angeles, Nashville, Dublin and Paris, Jonathan and MindRiot are also venturing into sports and music. Jonathan is executive producing a docuseries called Trash Talk with Gary Payton, and also turning the poignant memoir of ex-professional skateboarder, Josh Swindell, into a movie which will take Jonathan to the Olympics this summer. As regards music, Jonathan is executive producing a music series about Seattle’s underground hip-hop scene in the Nineties entitled “Outshined” since it was overshadowed by the Pacific Northwest’s grunge scene of the same era; a fact NPR recently affirmed as well.  Jonathan credits most of his success to his steadfast concern for the underdog, and a tenacity to succeed despite formidable odds.

While working in Hollywood, Jonathan has always made it a priority to use his legal acumen and law license in his spare time. Among other notable endeavors, Jonathan launched the “Inmates Screenwriting Initiative” for Washington State’s largest prison for women. He also serves as an Ambassador to Dr. Nicky Ali Jackson’s Center for Justice and Post-Exoneration Assistance.

In his “Of Counsel” role, Jonathan collaborates with his longtime friend, Peter Currie, on entertainment law, sports law, and civil justice matters at FMCO.
