Barge worker rescued after workplace accident

Work injuries are expected to happen, even though the goal is for such injuries to never happen. We're human; and mistakes are bound to occur. But what you don't expect to happen is for your worker's compensation claim to be denied in the wake of a work injury. As a victim of a workplace accident, you probably assume that your employer assumes some (or all) of the responsibility, and thus you will be granted some support, such as workers' comp.

But the cold reality is that many workers' compensation claims are denied upon the first asking. For those who are in this position, do not panic. There is an appeals process that you can follow to try to secure the workers' comp benefits you desperately need and deserve. To ensure your appeal is being handled appropriately, you should consult an experienced attorney to help you.

As many Chicago residents are aware, work injuries are far more devastating in industry that deal with heavy machinery or difficult labor. Construction sites are a great example, as are many mining and industrial jobs. One person who worked on a sedimentary transport barge was struck with a crane, and he will likely seek workers' comp to help with the "trauma" (as the source article put it) he suffered to his face and leg.

The man was rescued from the barge and taken to a New Jersey hospital. Considering this was a workplace accident, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the incident in the coming weeks and months.
