Fatal workplace accident under investigation in Chicago

While the following story is a little old, it did happen in the state of Illinois and it also shows just how dangerous construction sites (and, really, any job that deals with heavy machinery) can be.

The man was working at a job site and was killed after what is being called an "industrial accident." The man somehow fell in to a wood grinder, at least according to an initial report. It isn't entirely clear what happened with this accident, but the man did lose his life and there will be many questions about the overall safety of the job site.

For example, how much training did this man (and other employees) receive prior to using the wood grinder? What about supervision of the workers, and of this particular piece of equipment? Could those in charge of the work site have better implemented safety protocols or measures to prevent this unfortunate accident from happening?

Without any details, it is impossible to know. But more than anything, this story is a reminder of the raw power of many instruments, machines, vehicles and tools that are used in heavy industries all around the world. When improperly used or poorly maintained, these things can cause serious or catastrophic injuries to unsuspecting workers.

These injured workers need help, not just in the immediate future, but possibly for many years or even the rest of their lives. Workers' compensation can play a huge role in fulfilling this need, but the injured worker may need legal help to ensure that their claim is properly filed.
