Illinois workers injured due to explosion

A grain facility explosion that occurred on Feb. 25, 2014 resulted in two workers being injured. The explosion occurred at the Gavilon Group facility just south of Warren, Illinois. It is one of 144 grain storage facilities operated by the Gavilon Group.

Those injured included a 33-year-old man and 49-year-old man, both from Illinois. Initial reports suggested that several individuals were injured due to the explosion. This matter was being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

It’s often difficult for an injured worker to understand their legal options. These matters need to be taken seriously as workers injured can often face a lifetime of disability. Especially when speaking about industrial accidents such as explosions, injuries that occur may result in fractures, lacerations and severe burns.

In Illinois, injuries involving workers are generally handled in a different manner than if the injury occurred off the job. Still, these matters can be complex. Besides receiving workers' compensation benefits, the injured worker may also be entitled to compensation from negligent third-parties. It's therefore important that any investigation conducted be precise in pinpointing how the accident actually came about.

Attorneys can gather the resources to conduct such an investigation to determine the exact cause of accidents and injuries. Attorneys experienced in both workers' compensation and personal injury matters can then decide what legal strategy should be taken so that the worker receives compensation from every culpable party.

While workplace accidents will continue to occur, employers do need to take all necessary steps to keep our workers safe. Lawsuits can provide incentives to make certain that safety procedures are implemented to prevent work-related accidents from happening.
