Illinois construction worker killed on the job by car

Three people are recovering from an auto accident in Illinois that took the life of a construction worker on June 21. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office states that a car drove into a construction zone on the 4900 block of South Western Avenue just after 4 a.m. and struck a 58-year-old man who was on duty. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene after police and emergency responders arrived. The medical examiner's office said that an autopsy on the worker was planned for June 22.

Avoiding repetitive stress injuries in the workplace

Repetitive stress injuries are one of the largest categories of workplace injuries, according to health care professionals in Illinois and nationwide. Such injuries include conditions like neck or lower back pain, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis or headaches. The pressure placed on joints by poor posture or poor positioning during routine tasks can cause these injuries. Poor workstation design is also a major contributing cause to repetitive stress injuries.

Government supports workplace fall protection

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor organized an event entitled the National Fall Safety Stand-Down during the June 2 workweek to draw attention to the importance of fall safety in workplaces, particularly in the construction industry.
