Worker in serious condition after falling from old water tank

A man in Illinois sustained serious injuries after a workplace fall that happened on Aug. 18. At the time of the accident, the 20-year-old man had been working with another man to disassemble an old water tank. The water tank was located on the roof of a building near Sacramento and Grand Avenues in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood. It is unclear if any other construction workers' accidents had taken place at the site.

Work injuries in Illinois

An injury in the workplace can be frustrating if it affects your ability to continue working. Even seemingly minor injuries can have serious implications, especially if an infection or other complication arises. In the face of financial stresses, it may be tempting to accept a workers' compensation settlement, but you may want to consider discussing the situation with an experienced lawyer first. Your employer's insurance for workers' compensation may address medical expenses and may provide cash assistance if you are prevented from working while recovering, but it may be prudent to carefully research additional options.

Overview of workers' compensation

An on-the-job accident at a construction site can cause serious injuries to anyone involved. Several parties could be held liable for such an accident, including the employer, contractors, product manufacturers and property owners. Workers' compensation is separate from any liability that those parties may face. The state of Illinois put the workers' compensation system into place to protect employees throughout the state who suffer injuries when they are working.
