Workplace injuries from H2S exposure

As some Illinois workers in certain occupations know, hydrogen sulfide is a colorless gas with a distinctive odor akin to rotten eggs. This gas is corrosive, flammable, explosive and poisonous. It is formed naturally and is most prominent in oil, gas, pulp, chemical and paper operations. Companies are under regulatory rules to provide appropriate protection for workers.

Manufacturing workers and occupational hearing loss

Many manufacturing workers in Illinois are regularly exposed to conditions at their places of employment that could cause significant hearing loss. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that workers in manufacturing report suffering from occupational hearing loss more than any other occupational illness. In total, this accounts for nearly 10 percent of all OSHA-recordable illnesses.

Worker killed when air tank explodes

A man in Illinois was killed on Feb. 2 during an explosion at the factory where he was working. The 35-year-old Elgin man was reportedly testing a 200-gallon air tank to determine whether it had any leaks when the tank exploded shortly after 11 p.m. Another worker sustained injuries during the blast but refused medical treatment. It is unclear if any of the parties involved have filed for workers' compensation benefits.

Illinois construction accident claims worker's life

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a construction worker killed on Jan 30 in an accident on Chicago's Near North Side. The 45-year-old Indiana man died as he was working on a high-rise residential building at Elm and State streets.
