Illinois employees may be interested to know about some of the dangers that working in a high-heat environment can present. Due to the potential for serious illnesses related to heat, procedures should be put into place to avoid or minimize the danger of these conditions.

Dangers of trench collapses in Illinois

Every year, workers across the country are killed or seriously injured when they are in trenches that suddenly collapse. It is vitally important that employers take the necessary safety measures to help prevent trench walls from collapsing. Workers should refrain from entering an unprotected trench until these safety measures are implemented.

Three construction workers injured in fall from scaffold

Falls are the most common reason for fatalities in construction site accidents. Illinois construction workers are vulnerable as well as those in the rest of the country. On Oct. 2, 2014, a ladder-jack scaffold platform broke under three workers while they were performing roofing work causing them to fall from a height of two stories. Two were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, and one was given outpatient treatment and released.

Dangers of silica exposure in Illinois

Illinois workers whose jobs involve the construction or installation of stone countertops may be unaware of the risks associated with exposure to crystalline silica. These fine particles can be inhaled, and they are found in the sand, granite, sandstone, quartzite and other stones used in the construction of stone countertops.

Potential dangers of nursing in Illinois

Although many would consider a hospital to be one of the safest places to work, the reality is that nurses suffer more back and arm injuries than workers in just about any other profession. Every year, tens of thousands of nurses are injured while moving and lifting patients, something that is a regular part of their job.
