Turn to a reputable law firm after an RV accident

If you're already an avid RVer there's no need to sell you on the fun of taking to the open road in your very own home on wheels. But road mishaps can mar the pleasure of the RV experience for all. The following safety tips can help families have safer RVing adventures.

-- Understand how much clearance you actually need for safe passage through tunnels, underpasses and other tight spots. Special atlases for RVers and truckers specifies the clearances needed for all areas on your route.

-- Don't ignore regular maintenance tasks. Meticulous adherence to maintenance schedules will save you money over time.

-- Don't set out on the road without first doing a pre-trip inspection of the RV.

-- Have a designated plan in case of breakdowns, and let somebody know of your destination and route.

-- Make sure that all signals, lights and horns are in working order.

-- Visually inspect all hoses and belts for cracks and replace those showing signs of wear.

-- Verify that your towing equipment and hitch is in tip-top shape.

-- Check tires for tread depth and correct air pressure.

-- Stow away all loose items that could become projectiles within the RV.

-- Make sure that your smoke alarms have new batteries and your fire extinguishers were recently inspected.

-- Avoid grease fires by thoroughly cleaning the cooking vent hood.

We are heading into the winter season for many areas of the country. Even if your destination will be warm and sunny, you may have to drive through areas of inclement or hazardous weather, so be prepared for all weather emergencies. Plot your course using the weather to your advantage, avoiding areas of heavy snowfall or winter storms.

Remember that you are only as safe as the rest of the drivers around you on the road. If your RVing trip winds up in a collision with an at-fault vehicle, our attorneys can answer your questions about the options you have to pursue compensation.
