Man making turn slams into pedestrian in fatal crash

Drivers in the Chicago area should be sure that they understand how they are expected to drive around pedestrians. For example, watching for pedestrians in crosswalks isn't something that is limited to only daytime.

Instead, drivers traveling at night must be especially aware of pedestrians. A recent fatal accident in a crosswalk highlights the need for drivers to take responsibility for driving safely.

The accident occurred in Avondale, a Northwest Side neighborhood. A man was crossing the street using the crosswalk just before midnight. He was slammed into by a 31-year-old man turning left from Melrose Street onto North Pulaski.

The 64-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The driver who struck him was merely cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

The deceased man's family has to learn how to live life without him by their side. They likely have to cover his final expenses, and the ones who counted on him for support have to figure out how to make ends meet.

This brings up an important point. If you are facing the death of your loved one in a tragic crash, you might want to take action to hold the driver accountable. You can do this through a wrongful death lawsuit, which can be filed whether the person faces criminal charges or not.

The wrongful death lawsuit can seek damages for final expenses, loss of earning capacity and other damages that occur. It is crucial that you consider who should be named as defendants so that you are seeking compensation from all possible parties who might be held liable.
