Distracted drivers put everyone, even motorcyclists, in danger

Even though the weather is still stuck somewhere between spring and winter, people on motorcycles are taking to the roads in the Chicagoland area. Keeping motorcyclists safe is imperative because these riders are at great risk of injury in an accident. Some drivers who are on the roadway are partaking in activities that can lead to accidents.

Drivers who are on cellphones can make life miserable for themselves, as well as others who are on the roads. Cellphone usage is one reason why motor vehicle insurance rates are higher than what they probably need to be in the Chicago area.

The rate of distracted driving and the concerns that come with distracted driving comes at a difficult time. The insurance industry is trying to balance out providing cost-effective coverage with the high costs that come with driver distraction. This all comes at a time when data plans are included with some newer vehicles.

Drivers all need to realize they don't need to surf the online information superhighway while driving along the physical highways. Using hands-free options or simply waiting until they are off the road could possibly prevent a good number of accidents.

Until drivers take the steps to stop distractions, it isn't likely that responsible motorists are going to get any relief in their insurance rates. This, along with the danger these drivers pose to others when they are distracted, should be a call to behave responsibly.

Anyone who is harmed by a distracted driver, including motorcyclists who are struck, should remember that they have the right to seek compensation. This can help to cover medical expenses and similar bills related to the injury.
