What do I need to do if a car slams into me while I'm walking?

As you are walking along Lower Wacker Drive or any other street in this bustling city, a car comes out of nowhere and slams into you while you are crossing in a crosswalk. Now you have to decide what you are going to do.

Making a plan ahead of time can help you out. Being struck by a car is a stressful experience, so make sure that you aren't stuck wondering what to do.

What is the first thing I should do?

The first thing that you should do is to call emergency services. Pedestrian versus car crashes often result in serious injuries. You need to get medical care. The call to emergency services will also get a police officer to the scene. The officer can write out an accident report, which might come in handy later.

What else do I need to do?

If you are able to, you should take pictures of the scene of the accident. This can prove valuable if you decide that you are going to seek compensation. Additionally, you should try to get the contact information for people who saw the accident and from the driver of the vehicle that struck you. This information might all be included on the police report, so you might be able to get it from there if you can't get it on the scene due to your injuries.

Make sure that you carefully consider your right to seek compensation after a car strikes you. This might help you to make ends meet so that you can place your focus on healing from the accident. This is especially important if you are facing considerable time off of work because of the severity of the injuries.
